Abstract
The pathogen responsible for COVID-19 exhibits a high tropism for angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors, which are abundantly expressed
on acinar, ductal, and secretory cells of the pancreas. It is evident that this infection may influence the course of inflammatory processes in patients with chronic pancreatitis.
Objective: To highlight the diagnostic and therapeutic considerations in the management of concomitant COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2 infection) and chronic
pancreatitis. This clinical observation describes a case of exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis in a 55-year-old male with a history of alcohol abuse, which was preceded by pneumonia caused by SARS-CoV-2.
