Abstract

Milk thistle has been used as a medicinal plant for a long time and is used in traditional medicine to treat liver diseases and normalize digestion, to stimulate lactation, with inflammation of the upper respiratory tract and lungs. The main interest is the hepatoprotective activity of milk thistle. The dominant components are silybin, silidianin, silicristin, the sum of which is called silymarin. Milk thistle spotted (folk names: devyasil black, lump, milk thistle, Maryino ostropestro, Maryin thistle, Mary's thorns, white osot, ostropester, rastopsha, milk thistle, Tatar) Milk thistle grows in vacant lots, in weeds, along roads, in dry places, sometimes it is bred in gardens and vegetable gardens as an ornamental and medicinal plant. Milk thistle is widely cultivated in Russia.
