Abstract

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most frequently reported cardiac arrhythmias and the most common cause of cardiogenic non-valvular thromboembolism. The presence of AF in a patient is significantly more often associated not only with more frequent development of thromboembolic complications, including stroke, but also with an increased risk of cardiovascular death. AF is understood as uncoordinated excitation of individual atrial fibers with a frequency of 350-600 per minute, accompanied by loss of mechanical atrial systole, which leads to an incorrect and, as a rule, frequent ventricular rhythm, and, in some cases, to a violation of systemic hemodynamics. The prevalence of AF increases with age, reaching 9% among people over 80 years of age in Uzbekistan.
